Two Small Viking Villages in Denmark
Visiting Two Small Viking Villages
Today you will discover two Viking villages; the first one is Lejre village in Denmark. The other one is at Fyrkat, around Hobro Castle. Those two villages are very different in their organization. The first one has been organized to present the Vikings for a younger audience in general. However, the other one is more adapted for an all age audience.
Lejre
The village Lejre provides three different sections to represent the different eras of the place, the stone, bronze, and iron age. At the beginning of the visite, the visitors received a map of the area, and you will be free to visit what you want. The different reconstructed houses exposed tools for pottery to farming passing to construction and burials. There is also a lot of activities that are for the youth. Those activities include disguise or tale of Viking myth and legend. There are even people who are present at the village who are here to act like if they were living during the age of the Vikings, so if you are looking for a small job that involved Vikings now, you know where to look. The site is also big enough to allow a simple walk around the place. There so you can profit from a calm and fresh walk in the woods around the camp. You will also have the possibility to have a view on few animals like wild boards, sheets, and geese, be careful at this part because it can quickly get messy and dirty.
Fyrkat
The second village is near a fortress at Fyrkat. This one is more turned on a historical point than the first village. The place is smaller than the previous one, and they are more detailed information on the different buildings composing the town. Here you can visit well maintain structures like a workshop, a farm, and a blacksmith. They contained a poster that explains the utility of each building in Danish, English, and French. The furniture of the insides of the houses can let us have a small idea of the Vikings living conditions. It is possible that some of the houses are not available due to renovations that are needed to maintain them. I face this issue as during my visite the barn and the long-house were not available.
