Halifax Military and the Fort

The most interesting historical site is its citadel, which has to offer a lot about Halifax Military past. The Fort contains a Museum about the past military implication that Canada was involved in. There is also a section covering the origins of the fort and various other exhibits.

The structure in the centre of the fort contains many things, but the most interesting one, the museum, is on the second floor. The museum is composed of three rooms. the first one deals with the first world war. The second one deals with World War II. Finally, the last one covers the Afganistan war.The first room covers the timeline of the First World War. This includes the major events like how it started, the main battle and its end. There is also a small part that covers the Great Explosion that devastated the city of Halifax, but the Maritime Museum covers this in better details. There is also another section for the various weapons used by both sides of the war, like riffles, machine guns and artilleries. Finally, in the centre of the room, there is a reproduction of the Vimy Ridge Memorials. It was made in the memory of the Canadians soldier who died in the war.The next room is about the Second World War. Just like the previous room, it covers the main battle of the war, like D-day. There are also many weapons that were used by both sides. In addition to this, there are some armoured vehicles used in the war, like the Allies Sherman or the German Panther are exposed (in miniature of course). Finally, there are also a few things on the medical system of the front. The final room is about the Afganistan war. This room is very different from the other one. Indeed it is presenting the major figures that took part in it.  As well as the different corps of the Canadian army that was involved in it.

History

Close to the entrance of the fort, there is an area that is exploring the beginnings of the fort. It begins with the first settlement built in the area with the various fortifications and battery ramps built to defend the place from sea assaults. Next came the various uses of the place, from a defensive outpost to a commercial port city. It also presents the various inhabitants of the city like soldiers, merchant or African immigrants. In a different room, there is also a small resume of the story of the British Empire from its rise to its dissolution.

Outside

The outside has also a lot to offer, you can have a close view of the fort structures as well as many other animations. The most impressive one is a demonstration of a charge tactic used during World War I (watch out for your ears because those rifles are extremely loud). You can also have a nice walk in the walls of the forts. There is a stand that explains how World War I riffles were used and also have a look at the various cannons posted on it. Finally,  there is a reconstruction of the WWI trench that you can visit. Here you can imagine what it was like to live on the front. Also had to this bombardment, constant shootings, various attacks, non-existent sanitary conditions and more. This is all I have to say on this place, but if you went to visit Halifax this fort is not a place to miss.
